El Encanto is the work of Rolando Fonseca and his father Higinio, whose family farm sits high above the Santa María de Dota Valley in Costa Rica’s Los Santos region at 1,850–1,900 masl. Part of the renowned Coopedota R.L. cooperative since the late 1970s, the Fonseca family are among more than 1,160 farming families contributing to Tarrazú’s Protected Designation of Origin coffees. The 10-hectare farm is planted with varieties including Esperanza, Geisha, Villalobos, Catigua and Caturra, and is managed with a daily, hands-on focus on quality and environmental care. Each harvest, their coffee is delivered to Coopedota and kept separate to preserve traceability and character. Beyond the cup, El Encanto represents a genuinely cooperative model, one built on shared effort, dignity and long-term community wellbeing, where quality coffee supports not just one farm, but an entire network of families working together in Dota.
